DR-Hair provides doctor-administered PRF treatment at our Damansara Utama clinic in Petaling Jaya. PRF uses your own blood, spun at low speed to preserve a natural fibrin scaffold that releases growth factors into your scalp over several days. Every course begins with a clinical scalp analysis.
Includes: 20-Minute Digital Scan & Consultation

PRF stands for platelet-rich fibrin. Like PRP, it is a hair regrowth treatment that uses your own blood to deliver growth signals into the areas of your scalp where hair has started to thin. The difference is in how the blood is prepared and what happens afterwards.
A small sample is drawn and spun slowly in a centrifuge. That slower speed preserves fibrin (a natural protein your body uses in healing) which forms a soft mesh holding the platelets in place. When introduced into the scalp via dermapen, that mesh acts as a scaffold. Rather than releasing everything at once, it releases growth factors gradually over the following days.
The practical effect is a longer stimulation window from a single session.
PRF hair treatment is RM588 for the first trial (NP: RM888).
The number of sessions you need depends on how much of your thinning is still reversible.
One thing worth knowing upfront. PRF does not change the genetics behind hair loss, so most patients return for maintenance every three to six months once the initial course is complete. Plan for that now rather than be surprised by it later.
We draw between 10ml and 20ml from your arm, comparable to a routine blood test. Under five minutes.
Your sample spins slowly in a medical-grade centrifuge. The gentler speed preserves the fibrin, which forms a soft mesh holding the concentrated platelets in place. PRF is prepared and applied via dermapen within a short window, since the fibrin begins to set.
Your doctor delivers a series of dermapen applications across the thinning zones mapped during your scalp analysis, placed at the depth where the follicle responds. Numbing cream goes on first, and most patients describe brief pinpricks rather than pain.
The whole appointment runs 45 to 60 minutes. There is minimal downtime, so plenty of our patients book over lunch and head back to the office.
PRF works on follicles that have weakened rather than follicles that are gone. That single distinction usually shapes most of what we recommend.
This form of hair loss is the most common reason patients come to us. If your hairline is receding or your crown is thinning but the follicles are still producing fine, weak hairs, PRF has living tissue to work with.
Because PRF requires no anticoagulant, what goes into your scalp is your own blood and nothing else. For some patients that matters, and it is a reasonable thing to prefer.
Heavy shedding after illness, stress or childbirth usually recovers on its own. PRF shortens that recovery rather than replacing it.
PRF before surgery strengthens the donor area. Afterwards it supports graft survival and thickens the native hair between grafts, which is often what makes the overall result look natural.
Your scalp analysis tells us which of these applies to you. That is why we do it before quoting anything.
Where an area of scalp has been smooth for several years, the follicle is no longer present and dermapens cannot restore it. Those cases are better served by a transplant assessment, and we will say so at consultation.
Outcomes are also reduced by low platelet counts, chronic liver conditions, blood disorders and smoking, since the quality of your preparation reflects the quality of your blood. Active scalp infections are treated first. Alopecia areata requires a medical assessment because treatment differs from pattern hair loss. Where appropriate, we may recommend co-management with a dermatologist.
PRF stimulates follicles. It does not block DHT, which is the hormonal driver behind most pattern hair loss.
That is why we treat PRF as one component rather than a standalone answer. For most patients with pattern loss, the plan starts with a foundation of minoxidil and finasteride where clinically appropriate, with PRF working on top of it to stimulate the follicles that foundation is protecting. Where an iron deficiency, thyroid issue or scalp inflammation is contributing, that gets addressed too.
If PRF alone is not the right answer, we can move you to PRP or exosome therapy without starting over, or assess whether a transplant is the better route. For a side-by-side look at every option, see our guide to how PRF compares with other hair loss treatments.
Your first visit is an assessment, not a treatment. We run a digital scan to map how dense your hair actually is and how far the thinning has progressed, review your medical history, and work out what is driving your hair loss.
Blood draw, preparation and dermapen, completed within the hour.
Spaced roughly one month apart. The effect builds across the course, so keeping to schedule matters.
Most patients return every three to six months to hold the density they have gained.
Reduced shedding usually comes first, often after the second session. Visible regrowth typically begins around month three. Fuller density generally shows around month six, which tends to be when other people start noticing.
Response varies between individuals, which is part of why we assess before we treat. We rescan at around six months so progress is measured rather than guessed at.
PRF hair treatment is well tolerated by the scalp. Mild scalp tenderness, slight swelling for around 24 hours and pinpoint bleeding at the dermapen sites are all normal and settle on their own.
You will get full preparation and aftercare instructions at your consultation. The essentials are stopping blood thinners such as aspirin and fish oil about a week before, leaving your hair unwashed for 24 hours afterwards, and avoiding heavy sweating for the same period.
One PRF-specific point: avoid anti-inflammatory painkillers such as ibuprofen for a few days either side of treatment, since the healing response PRF relies on is the thing those medicines suppress. Paracetamol is fine.
At DR-Hair, we provide you with hair restoration care that’s both professional and personal. We guide you through each session and track your progress, helping you achieve lasting results and the confidence that comes with them.
PRF is an invasive medical procedure. In Malaysia, aesthetic dermapen application may only be performed by a doctor holding a Letter of Credentialing and Privileging, which is a specific approval issued by the Ministry of Health.
Every patient starts with a clinical scalp analysis (Trichoscopy). The same thinning pattern can have several different causes, and knowing which one you have is what makes the plan worth following.
We build plans around foundation medication, regenerative therapy and scalp health together, because that combination is what international protocols support.
PRF, PRP, exosome therapy and scalp care under one roof, so adjusting your plan does not mean starting again somewhere else.

From RM588 for a first trial session, including your scalp analysis and consultation. Your full quote follows the analysis, since the number of sessions depends on your assessment.
Both use your own blood. PRF is spun at a lower speed with no anticoagulant, forming a soft fibrin scaffold that releases growth factors over several days rather than all at once.
Both hair treatments promise the same solution and are generally similar in offering the same result. Which treatment better suits your condition is recommended by your doctor following your scalp analysis.
Most patients describe brief pinpricks. Numbing cream is applied first to reduce sensation and each dermapen application lasts only a second or two.
A course spaced about a month apart, then maintenance every three to six months. Your plan follows your scalp analysis.
A completed course generally holds for 12 to 18 months, since PRF does not change the genetics behind hair loss.
Yes. Women more often notice a widening part than a receding hairline, and PRF suits that pattern well.
For most patients with pattern hair loss, yes. The medication addresses the hormonal cause while PRF stimulates the follicles.
Blood thinners including aspirin, vitamin E and fish oil should stop about a week beforehand. Avoid anti-inflammatories such as ibuprofen for a few days either side. Do not stop prescribed medication without speaking to your doctor.
Yes, and it is commonly recommended to support graft survival and thicken the surrounding hair.
Start with a scalp analysis first before any treatment package. Your consultation covers trichoscopic scalp mapping, a review of your history, and a clear answer on what PRF can do for your particular pattern of hair loss.
